5 Creative Playmat Activities For Fall

Autumn is one of the seasons that makes us fall in love with the coming holiday festivities. With all the colors, chill in the air, and large, warm sweaters, there is something that makes us enjoy cozy family times.


The sound of rustling golden leaves, the squishy pumpkins, and warm apple pies, there is every reason to welcome a season filled with fun activities. It is also a perfect chance for your newborn or toddler to learn about seasonal changes and enjoy autumn-themed sensory play.

We have listed some of the fun activities, good for child development, that you can do with your children or even by yourself on a playmat.

  • Leaf Rubbing: It is one of the classics and most memorable things a kid can do, and that is rubbing crayons on top of a paper with leaves under it. Watch how the colors of autumn become part of childhood memories.  
  • Pumpkin Decorations: Halloween is around the corner and decorating pumpkins has got to be one of the fun and interactive activities to do with kids on a playmat. Whether it is carving, painting, or just adding stickers, it becomes a traditional act of expression. 
  • Autumn Read-Aloud: One of the activities many of us still remember is storytime. Storytime or reading books together makes for one of the best experiences for anyone. 
  • Acorn Collection: Once your kids have had enough fun playing outside, ask them to learn sorting and counting by collecting acorns. Take a small bag or bucket and collect as many acorns as their little hands can carry. 
  • Pinecone Artwork: Learning how to craft at an early age helps the kids learn motor skills, improves creativity, and gives them a boost of confidence. Take some fun craft items and kid-safe glue and craft as many pinecones as possible. 

Playmats are important for child development, but it doesn’t mean they can’t be used for fun and creative activities. They can enjoy tummy time in their play space while you prepare the foam playmat for playtime.
